>Surfers
Ear<
Anybody
surfing in Ireland should wear ear plugs to prevent "Surfers
Ear" or "Diffuse Exostosis", this is a bone growth
in the ear canal caused by long-term exposure to cold water temperatures.
It eventually blocks the ear canal reducing hearing, causing continuous
ear infections and other problems.
>Irish
Surfing Association<
Consider
joining your local surf club or the Irish Surfing Association. This
will not only put you in contact with other surfers who can advise
you on all aspects of the sport but will also give you access to
insurance cover so if you do have a collision in the water at least
you will be insured.
The
Irish Surfing Association is the National Governing Body for surfing
in the thirty-two counties of Ireland and aspires to be a dynamic
organisation with which Irish Surfers identify, that is consensus
based, inclusive, open and transparent with structures that allow
all to enjoy the sport safely reaching their full potential while
promoting and the protection and sustainability of our surfing environment.
If
you wish to become a member of the ISA or want to find details of
your local surf club please visit their website at: www.isasurf.ie
